Urs Fischer: The Public & the Private

at The Legion of Honor

This was one of the more extraordinary shows I’ve seen in some time. ¬†Having the contemporary sculptures of Urs Fischer interspersed among the Rodin statues and even a painting taking the place of a Peter Paul Rubens created such a dynamic juxtaposition of old and new, giving both new context and meaning.

The Crying Horse

I can’t intellectualize why, but this tiny horse is one of my favorite things I’ve ever seen. I saw a man nearly trip over it after not noticing it at all.

It all seems like such a fuck you to the art establishment that is the museum. It’s so rare to step into this kind of place and see such humor.
